We are so glad you are here. Here's a little bit about us!
We are a team of employees from various departments that have a passion in diversifying our workforce and ensuring principles of inclusion and equity are infused into everything we do. We want all of those we encounter to feel good about their interactions with the City of Fitchburg.
Our mission is to promote equity and social justice and to create change through education and awareness. We strive to ensure our clients, customers, and employees feel they belong, and are welcomed, respected, and heard.
We meet every month as a large group and then we meet bi-monthly with a smaller sub-committee that is focused on onboarding and retention; recruitment and hiring; and training and education.
Things we are proud of!
In 2023, the City of Fitchburg raised the Juneteenth flag for the first time and added Juneteenth as a City observed holiday.
The ERG created the Bilingual Incentive policy & procedure. All bilingual employees fluent in languages predominately spoken in Fitchburg are eligible for additional compensation for all hours paid.
Hiring managers can now hire someone as a Trainee if they don't meet the minimum qualifications. This allows us to hire someone and train them to gain the experience.
We've held Black History training, Microaggressions and other related DEI trainings. We regularly bring awareness to various cultural events including Dia De Los Muertos, Hispanic Heritage, Winter celebrations, Pride Month, and more!
The team recently drafted a new hire buddy program to roll out to new employees. The goal is to partner new employees with more seasoned staff to provide a support system and help new hires get to know others across the City. In addition, the ERG will be rolling out a Workplace Culture survey in 2025. With the results, the ERG can focus efforts on the DEI needs identified.
